We’re delighted to introduce Priti Ruparelia to the SEI Master Trust Trustee board. Read our Q&A below to get to know her!
Q: How long have you been in the industry?
This will be my 27th year in the financial industry, the last 25 years in pensions.
Q: How long have you been an SEI Trustee?
I joined the Board in September 2024.
Q: What do you do when you’re not being a Trustee?
I am a huge tennis fan and spend a lot of time watching the calendar tour on TV. Where possible I’ll try and get to see tournaments in person, and I already have my Wimbledon and Queens tickets for this year. Having been to the French Open a few years ago, it’s just the US and Australian Open to tick off the bucket list.
Q: What do you think is the most important thing that members need to do for their retirement?
The number one task is for members to engage with their pension. I know and fully understand that it is a complicated topic, but awareness is so important. The easiest approach is to start to understand the basics of your pension and then build from there. There are lots of tools and information available to help members understand their pension arrangements during any point in their savings journey. To help bring it to life, some questions to ask yourself are ‘what does retirement look like to me?’ and ‘how does it align with my current lifestyle?’ For example, do you want to take the same number of holidays as you do now? This will start to help shape the picture of retirement in your head which then can help with tackling the pension aspect.
Q: When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Being very ambitious, I wanted to be a GP - until I realised that my fear of seeing blood would pose a real issue! And more on the ambitious side of life, I wanted to be a global singer. Pensions feels like a good alternative to both of these careers.
Q: What have you recently watched on TV which you really enjoyed?
I am a fan of mysteries and thrillers – TV that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat! I have just finished watching ‘Missing You’ which is based on a popular novel by Harlan Coben. If you are into the genre, this is worth a watch. The fact it’s so farfetched is neither here nor there!
Q: Where’s your favourite place on Earth?
It’s difficult to choose a single favourite place, but somewhere that really surprised me (and in a good way) was the Niagara Falls. I never expected it to be so vast and so breathtakingly pretty. I was blown away by the impact it had on me. That trip is one of my favourites to date and ‘Niagara by the Lake’ most definitely lived up to its ‘old town charm’ label! I love travelling and exploring – both across the UK and further afield - and so hope to find the next Niagara Falls at some point soon. Perhaps when I’m on my next tour as a global superstar!
